What is Bujinkan?

The Bujinkan (武神館) is an international martial arts organization based in Japan and headed by Masaaki Hatsumi. The program consists of nine separate combat systems practiced by feudal samurai (military) and ninja (special forces).

Techniques and Weapons Taught

Dating back several hundred years, Bujinkan martial arts training includes unarmed self-defense techniques like strikes, throws, holds, chokes, and joint-locks, and it relies mainly on natural body movement instead of muscle strength. And it also includes training with more than a dozen traditional samurai and ninja weapons. Because of this, practitioners develop a well-rounded skill set that combines agility, strategy, and historical combat methods, so the art is both practical and deeply rooted in tradition. Thus, Bujinkan offers a unique martial arts experience that blends tradition with practical self-defense techniques.

Beginnings

The Griffith Park Bujinkan (BujinkanGP) training group was established in 2017 to provide Franklin Canyon Bujinkan members with an additional location to practice in preparation for training in Japan. In 2020 all training locations were consolidated under the Bujinkan Seki Ryu umbrella.

The Franklin Canyon Bujinkan (BujinkanFC) was established in 2012 by Sensei David Greenberg, after decades of training and teaching in Japan and abroad. BujinkanGP instructors are licensed by Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi, the head of the international Bujinkan martial arts organization based in Japan..

Our
INSTRUCTORS

Both Griffith Park Bujinkan and Franklin Canyon Bujinkan is managed by Dr. Dante Dionne, with support from Dr. Christopher Lau.

We are fortunate to have the patronage of several international and local Bujinkan Shihan with collectively hundreds of years experience in this art. Firstly, because we are part of the Moti Nativ family tree, David Greenberg Sensei continues to offer support and guidance to our dojo. And Eran Conforty Sensei, who is based in Los Angeles, has supported our group since the beginning of the Franklin Canyon dojo, so he contributes his expertise to our area.
